The cutting-edge Intel 18A process technology, which offers new breakthrough transistor technologies for increased power and performance, will be advantageous to ARM clients designing their next-generation mobile SoCs.
“Intel’s collaboration with ARM will expand the market opportunity for Intel Foundry Services (IFS) and open up new options and approaches for any fabless company that wants to access best-in-class CPU IP and the power of an open system foundry with leading-edge process technology,” said Pat Gelsinger, CEO of Intel.
For the purpose of meeting the steady, long-term demand for chips, Intel is now making investments in cutting-edge production capacity throughout the world, including major expansions in the US and the EU.
“ARM’s collaboration with Intel enables IFS as a critical foundry partner for our customers as we deliver the next generation of world-changing products built on ARM,” said Rene Haas, CEO of ARM.
This partnership will make it possible for foundry customers who are designing mobile SoCs with ARM-based CPU cores to have a more balanced global supply chain. ARM partners will be able to fully benefit from Intel's open system foundry strategy, which extends beyond conventional wafer fabrication to include packaging, software, and chiplets, by unleashing ARM's cutting-edge compute portfolio and world-class IP on Intel process technology.
Two ground-breaking innovations are offered by Intel 18A: PowerVia for optimised power distribution and RibbonFET's gate all around (GAA) transistor architecture for the best possible balance of performance and power.
“IFS and ARM will develop a mobile reference design, allowing demonstration of the software and system knowledge for foundry customers,” said the companies.
